Only the Strong: An Ex-Green Beret, his old Miami high school friend now bullied by a drug lord, turns twelve of the joint’s worst criminals into crime-busters by teaching them a hypnotic, Brazilian form of martial arts. They will now settle the score. Dopey however inoffensive; at its best in potently choreographed fight scenes. Across the Bridge: Scotland Yard is closing in on a German business man who is involved with some illegal deals. He goes on the run, and tries to enter the US by way of Mexico. King of Jazz: Million dollar musical revue, shot in 2-color Technicolor format, is filled with bigger-than-life production numbers and remarkable melodies. Highlights contain Walter Lantz’s animation pattern, Joe Venuti’s swing violin, youthful Bing Crosby with the Tempo Boys, and, obviously, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” which in early Technicolor is more a rhapsody in turquoise. Murder on Monday: Graceful all-megastar production of Agatha Christie’s whodunit set in the’30s, with unrecognizable Finney as the master-sleuth Hercule Poirot, and all his suspects on the same railroad train. Vibrant amusement, although severely slow paced. Bergman won Best Supporting Actress Oscar. I Love You Alice B: Phenomenal comedy in reference to the panicking of a well-known and successful L.A. attorney. Peter Sellers puts on one of his best performances in this piece. White Noise: Jonathan Rivers has lost his wife Anne. Then, he is contacted by a man who claims to have heard Anne’s voice, and has a recording of it. Then Jonathan himself captures a recording of Anne’s voice, and an image of her on video. Anne’s message to Jonathan is to find the brutal killer that took her life, so he won’t harm anyone else.
