A First look at Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy was released in Japan, United States, Canada, Europe, and Australasia on November of 2007 and in Korea on September of 2008. This 3D video game was introduced by Nintendo EAD Tokyo and presented by Nintendo for Wii. It follows other 3D platformer game Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

Mario is the central character of this video game and his main adventure is to rescue Princess Peach from the forces of evil, Bowser. Different stages of games are set on different galaxies with minor planets and worlds and can update power with gravity effects and new power-ups.

Super Mario Galaxy is placed in outer space; Marios goal is to collect Power Stars that is earned after completing an adventure or defeating bandits. Every galaxy is composed of small planets and other space matters. Super Mario Galaxy uses an advance physic system that allows for a unique characteristic. Although this game is 3D, there are several areas of the game where players movement is limited to 2-dimensional axis, reminiscent of 2D Mario games.

As of December 31, 2008, Nintendo had sold 7.66 million copies of Super Mario Galaxy worldwide. This game is the second best-selling non-bundled Wii and ranked sixth best-selling Nintendo-published Wii game. Based on Famitsus report, Super Mario Galaxy has sold 912,746 copies in Japan as of July 9, 2008. And since the launch of the Wii, as of April 1, 2008 Super Mario Galaxy has become the third best-selling video game in Canada according to the NPD Group.

August 2008 issue, Nintendo Power voted that Super Mario Galaxy was the excellent game for Wii and the only Mario game to be on the top spot on the list. The only video game to be chosen for the highest position. The top rated game of all time is the Super Mario Galaxy based on TopTenReview and MobyGames.

Super Mario Galaxy received above average recognition and toward the end of 2007; the best-selling 3D platformer game was named Game of the Year by IGN, GameSpot, Nintendo Power, GameTrailers, Edge and Yahoo! Games. It also received the Adventure Game of the Year award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences at the Interactive Achievement Awards last February 7, 2008.
