Amistad: This film is based on the true story of an unsuccessful mutiny aboard a slave ship in’39 bound for the US. The subsequent trial would put the entire foundation of the US legal system on trial. Three great men, abolitionist Theodore Joadson, lawyer Roger Baldwin, and former president John Quincy Adams fight for the freedom, and civil rights, of the African slaves.

Baseketball: Infrequently ludicrous gross-out comedy in regards to 2 goofballs who create a driveway basketball game that eventually becomes popular all over the country, and turns them into great players. Some ludicrous gags, although a surprisingly walker storyline makes it droop. Cast includes Trey Parker, Matt Rock, Yasmine Bleeth, Jenny McCarthy, Robert Vaughn, Ernest Borgnine, and Robert Pile. Toy Story: A boy’s top choice toy, a doll named Woody, feels bullied and properly so by the emergence of a new toy, a high-tech spaceman model promoted on Television. An adult story masquerading as a kids film, this tale of kinship, fickleness, and the need for acceptance has a vibrant cast of characters led by Woody and his adversary, Thrill Light-year. Their facial proclamations and body language is as excellent as anything ever seen in a conventional animation. Cast includes Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, Laurie Metcalf, and R. Lee Ermey. (80 minutes,’95)

The Replacements: Stupid, run of the mill comedy about a lot of has-beens, eccentrics, and losers who are enlisted by coach Hackman as substitute players in the wake of a pro-football strike. If you seriously desire to see Hackman play a coach, watch the basketball drama Hoosiers. Cast includes Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Brooke Langton, Orlando Jones, Jon Favreau, Jack Warden, Faizon Love, and Brett Cullen. (118 minutes, 2000)

The Horse Whisperer: After her daughter is seriously injured in a horse riding accident, her wealthy mother takes the horse to a legendary horse whisperer in Montana. A romance between the two follows.

The Abdication: A slow pace documentary-drama of that tells the story of Sweden’s Queen Christina who leaves her thrown and converts to Catholicism. The man sent to test her loyalty to the church becomes the man she falls in love with. Peter Finch, Cyril Cusack, Paul Rogers, and Michael Dunn star. (1974 Drama-History)

Mission Impossible III: Ethan Hunt is called back into action to take down a ruthless arms dealer, Owen Davian. They pull off an incredible, and capture Owen at the Vatican. While transporting him into custody, the convoy is attacked, and Owen is freed. Now they must recapture him soon, Ethan’s wife to be has been captured, and time is running out.

Lovers: Aristocrat Mastroianni has a fictional spouse; an organ grinder persuades prostitute Mori to “impersonate” her. While it’s not stupid, it’s unexciting. Cast includes Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Mori, Lino Morelli, Plant life Carabella, and Adriano Celentano. (93 minutes,’76)
