Valerie asked: I’m going to college in September, and I have to come up with a personal anthology- 9 poems, 1 song lyrics. I have eight poems, anyone have any favourite poems? Or better still, what good song lyrics are there? I have a few ideas, but none that really stand out.
U2- Some times you can’t make it on your own
Beverley Knight- Remember Me
Maybe some Eric Clapton stuff?
Any ideas?
It doesn’t need to be a specific genre of song or anything, but the lyrics have to mean something.

Mak W asked: What is a good part of a song? Something that speaks to you?
Her Green plastic watering can
For her fake chinese rubber plant
In fake plastic earth.
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plants
Just to get rid of itself.
And It Wears Her Out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out.
This one is good. It is called Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead. I also really like Common’s lyrics.
but what are your favorite lyrics?

Try “Looking In” by Mariah Carey.
well, it really depends on what kind of song. like, a love song, a song about having fun, songs about life, add that onto your question and i’ll see what i can do.
Montauk By Bayside
I’m kinda old school, folky, hippy type but my fav lyrics ever are John Prine’s, “Hello In There.”
We had an apartment in the city,
Me and loretta liked living there.
Well, it’d been years since the kids had grown,
A life of their own left us alone.
John and linda live in omaha,
And joe is somewhere on the road.
We lost davy in the korean war,
And i still don’t know what for, don’t matter anymore.
Chorus:
Ya’ know that old trees just grow stronger,
And old rivers grow wilder ev’ry day.
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, “hello in there, hello.”
Me and loretta, we don’t talk much more,
She sits and stares through the back door screen.
And all the news just repeats itself
Like some forgotten dream that we’ve both seen.
Someday i’ll go and call up rudy,
We worked together at the factory.
But what could i say if asks “what’s new?”
“nothing, what’s with you? nothing much to do.”
Repeat chorus:
So if you’re walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don’t just pass ‘em by and stare
As if you didn’t care, say, “hello in there, hello.”

my favorite line:
“take the pain out of love and love won’t exist”
I’d say because you’re starting college and going out on your own, I think “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac would be perfect. Or if you really want like a deep meaning I’d say something like “Imagine” by John Lennon.
