BEST SONG LYRICS? And do you think less of people who call themselves artists and DONT write their own lyrics?
kERI H asked:
Any thing By Oasis
Anything by Stereophonics (ESPECIALLY the songs “Traffic” and “Nice to Be Out”)

And Bad Religion’s “Struck a Nerve” is pretty to the point.
ANd I cannot respect (as a poet myself) some one who calls themselves a musical artist who cant even attempt to write their own lyrics. I am not talking about covers or an occasional song that was not written by them . YOU KNOW the type I am talking about (Manufactured Plastic McPop……etc)

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me. Shine on till tomorrow, let it be
-let it be, the beatles
and i do sorta think less of them, but look at elton john. he never worte his own lyrics, and hes still considered a really good musician.
Well, as for best lyrics, that’s so subjective.
Here’s a few I really like:
“Sunset Grille” by Don Henley
“Boys Of Summer” by Don Henley
“Hungry Heart” by Bruce Springsteen
“Positively 4th Street” by Bob Dylan
“Head Over Heels” by ABBA (yes,I’m serious)
I could be here all day doing this.
Now, there’s a difference between a Musician, a Musical Artist, and a Singer.
A musician is someone with musical skills, who can play instruments and may be able to compose song melodies, but not lyrics.
A Musical Artist is someone who can sing and play an instrument. They can usually write their own songs. Some of them may not play an instrument when they perform (like Gwen Stefani) but still write songs. In that case, I would toss them into a Singer/Songwriter category.
A Singer is someone who sings, but doesn’t openly play instruments or really write their own songs (they might collaborate). Think Brittany Spears, and that type.
I’ve never heard Brittany refer to herself as an Artist, and I will not refer to her as that. She’s a singer – plain and simple. And no, I don’t care for her or her music – it’s just a good example.
But it’s still cloudy. I play instruments, but I have a hard time composing my own music. I’ve tried to write lyrics, but the melody always comes out sounding like something else. I don’t consider myself any less of a musician, but I’m not a professional either.
