Boy Bands From All Over The World
Dream Street: The group was initially put together by producers Louis Baldonieri and Brian Lukow and titled ‘Boy Wonder’ (a name borrowed from the nickname of comic book character Robin from the Batman comics and films). The band featured several boys aged 11-14 from the New York Broadway/Acting scene. Baldonieri and Lukow hoped to make an impact on the pop music industry by introducing a group of teenagers to the scene, all of whom had prior stage-singing experience. Among these original members were Gregory Raposo and Chris Trousdale, who would continue on into the remade group in 2001.
Dru Hill: An American singing group, most popular during the late 1990s, whose repertoire included R and B, soul, and gospel music. Founded in Baltimore, Maryland, and active since 1992, Dru Hill recorded seven Top 40 hits, and is best known for the R and B #1 hits “In My Bed”, “Never Make a Promise”, and “How Deep Is Your Love”. Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin was the group’s founder; his bandmates included main lead singer Mark “Sisq” Andrews, Larry “Jazz” Anthony, and James “Woody Rock” Green. Signing to Island Records through Haqq Islam’s University Records imprint, Dru Hill released two successful LPs before separating for a period from late 1999 to 2002, during which time Sisq and Woody released solo albums. While Woody’s Soul Music LP was a moderate success in the gospel music industry, Sisq’s Unleash the Dragon LP and its hit single “Thong Song” were major pop successes, and established Sisq as a household name outside of Dru Hill.
Fahrenheit: A Taiwanese boy band that has achieved success in the last five years in Asia and even in Western countries. The group consists of four members: Aaron Yan, Wu Chun, Calvin Chen, and Jiro Wang. They are managed by Jerry Fen’s Comic Productions Co., Ltd. and records albums with HIM International Music. They are also managed by WOW Music in Hong Kong. Fahrenheit are often associated with their seniors, S.H.E.
E.M.D.: A Swedish trio consisting of Erik Segerstedt, Mattias Andrasson and Danny Saucedo. All three members have participated on the Swedish version of Idol, with Danny being in the Top 11 and Erik being a finalists of Idol 2006, and Mattias being the third runner-up of Idol 2007. After both Erik and Danny had released successful solo albums, E.M.D. released its first single “All for Love” December 19, 2007. “All for Love” went into Swedish national record chart immediately. E.M.D. released their first album, A State of Mind, in May 2008. The album debuted at #1 on the Swedish Album Chart and produced four domestic chart topping singles.
Damage: Led by Andrez Harriott, Damage were one of several urban R and B outfits who capitalised on Mark Morrison’s international breakthrough during the mid 1990s.[citation needed] The quintet was formed at school at the beginning of the decade when Harriott, Jade Jones, Core Richards, Rahsaan J Bromfield and Noel Simpson were all teenagers. They sent a demo tape of a cover version of the Jackson Five song “Anything” to Jazz Summers of Big Life Records in early 1995. Although Summers was impressed by the quality of their singing and harmonies, he waited eighteen months before issuing their first record.[citation needed] Even though it charted outside the Top 40 it achieved excellent reviews and Damage were born.
Distinct Nature: A Canadian boy band. They achieved seldom fame during the late 1990s and early 2000s primarily in Canada. They are most known for their radio-friendly 1999 single, “Human,” which was sampled and interpolated from the 1986 hit “Human”, performed by the synthpop trio The Human League. That single was later followed by “You and I” and “Easier Said Than Done”. They were together for 10 years prior, to finally calling the group quits in late 2001.
