Chance A Gander In Arts Entertainment In America

America certainly has earned itself a reputation over the past few hundred years, has it not? It is known for being bold and brash, cutting edge and perhaps a bit dangerous, and expansive and expanding all over at once. But how has the reputation of arts entertainment in America held up?

Of course, the worlds of art and entertainment are big all over the globe. But the United States has put its definite stamp on certain aspects of art and made them unique to its culture. In fact, some aspects of these indigenous industries can be found nowhere else. To begin with, think no further than Hollywood.

When you talk about Hollywood, you talk about big. Everything about the film industry is designed to be big, and is talked about in big terms. Stars are larger than life, hits are blockbusters, enormous earnings are bragged about every opening weekend, and screens are getting bigger every year, as are the theaters showing the films. The salaries are enormous, and the advertising income is even more so.

Films little sibling, but still a giant in its own right, is television. TV may have even a more profound impact on the global scene than film. This art form, and it is one regardless of how lowbrow some may find it to be, is utterly ubiquitous. Sets and receivers are in literally every corner of every house, in every state, and in every country on every continent. Everyone is watching what America is up to on his or her very own television screens.

And what is media without music? The music industry in the States is also very prevalent, and not just for pop radio fare. Major cities sponsor major orchestras, American composers have created a sure niche for their styles of work, and even certain sates can be defined by their own unique sound. Detroit and Los Angeles come to mind in that regard. Some of the very best recording and performance facilities are between its shores.

As for what is termed high art, or classical art, there are no shortages of places to discover veritable artistic treasures in the States. The larger metropolitan areas, most notable New York and Los Angeles, are homes to several world class museums. From the most avant-garde of modern artists to the staid and true works of the masters, the country is rich in tradition. As with music, many artists have a distinctly native feel to their work, and it is shown proudly.

Perhaps nothing artistic is so unique the country as what is done with, and to, the automobile. Customizing cars began in the US, and is practice with a fervor simply not seen anywhere else. This may be due to the size of the country and the interstate systems, but it is huge, and obviously here to stay. This art form has its own heroes and madmen, and cars will never be seen as the same old thing every again, thanks to American zealots.

This country has certainly produced its share of unique means and ways for the whole wide world to consider. This is very clear in what has been achieved through arts entertainment in America. While sometimes of questionable taste, as all great art once was or may soon be, it is an undeniable cultural force.
