Getting Wii Games On The Cheap

It doesn’t matter, if your buying a PS3, a XBOX 360, a PS3, a iPhone, Wii, or a Dsi. If your one of the first in line to buy one, you get to pay a little extra. It makes me wonder why people stand in those lines for just that privilege. I however tend to be a little late to the party, and get to play with the same toys, for less money. When it comes to getting cheap games for the Wii, I know just where to look.

If your a little patient, and don’t mind not being able to add to “your collection” renting games is a smart way to go. It’s an excellent way, to try out a title you may be hesitant to pay full price as well.

If you rent more than 3 games a month, it’s probably a good idea to check out the stores that rent games on a monthly membership payment plan. Usually for less then $25, you can play as many games as you can stand. When you’ve had enough slaying orcs, and would rather race a formula 1, then no problem. Just return the dead orcs, and jump into your favorite race car.

The obvious advantages to renting games is that you never get stuck paying full price for a game you only play a few times. Choice, is another advantage. The game rental companies usually have thousands of titles to choose from. Imagine, it’s like having the biggest room in your house filled with nothing buy shelves and shelves of video games. That’s kind of what it’s like. Except, with a monthly membership, you actually get to keep furniture in that big room.

Most Wii console owners are families. Family gamers, don’t usually spend a lot of time staying on top of the latest game reviews, so renting makes a lot of sense. Better than paying full price for a lemon of a game.

Another option for cheap Wii games, is to go the WiiWare route. A lot of people probably don’t even know about this. Nintendo doesn’t seem to plug it much. But, you can actually download games through your Wii, right onto your Wii, and play them right away. There are some top notch games like Mega Man 9 available on WiiWare. Remember, first you have to connect your Wii to your home wireless network.

For all you young, green loving, Al-Gore-following, save the planet types, that also own a Wii, I truly hope your already buying used Wii games. Or, at least renting games. While it does keep money out of the economy, and in your pants, it also cuts down on our already excessive consumption of plastic, cardboard, Styrofoam, and other packaging materials. Seriously though, pretty much every game ever written for the Wii is on sale used somewhere.

Another tip to keep in mind when buying Wii games (or any games for that matter), is to try and wait a while. Never buy a game just as it hits the store shelves. Especially the big anticipated titles. They almost always get cheaper a couple of months down the road. You’d be amazed, at the great games you can find in a bargain bin.
