How do I extract music from my ipod to a new hard drive without wiping it?

Tyler L asked:

My hard drive died so I lost all my mp3 music. But I’m afraid to hook my ipod up to the computer because I’m ITunes will “update” my ipod and take off all my songs. How can I get my music off my Ipod and onto my new hard drive?

Don’t plug in the internet and just extract all your files on to your hard drive.

well, you can plug your ipod in and when itunes pops up, quickly cancel the sync before it actually starts and set sync to manual so that you control whether it syncs or not. next you need to download a program called ipodaccess which can take your songs off your ipod and throw them right back into itunes. this will also work if you have someone elses ipod. hope this helps. here’s the link

I dont know about taking music off your ipod for that you have to download some program you can look it up on yahoo and they come up with a ist of website that have them but to hook your computer to the ipod without wiping your ipod clean all you have to do is stop it from syncing and go into the options for the ipod on itunes and click that you want to manually manage music that way it doesn’t take any music off.

there is lots of software that will backup your ipod, but the one i would use is X play.http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/

to coppy music…

1. plug in ipod.
2. click on explre my ipod with X play.

3, just like normal windows explrer go the music folder

4, just select it hit edit, and hit coppy, and paste. or go in the folder and select all the songs and repeat the step…

What you need is an iPod to PC transfer tool which will help you back up all the things on your iPod to your hard drive.

I use Tansee iPod Transfer. It helps me transfer all music and videos on iPod to computer perfectly.

When connect your iPod to computer, it will automatically display all iPod contents. You simply select and click “Copy” button. Done. It won’t cause any deletion of any files.

You can free download it at
It even has detailed guide.
