How the Music Played Back in the Old Days
I have very fond recollections from my early years and they are overwhelmed by music. My mother and father love the classics, they could swing to the beat in our lounge even with no shoes on. I had watched the two of them dance to the old music of Glenn Miller, Guy Lombardo and Sinatra. My parents could jiggerbug like no one I have ever noticed. During Saturday nights, my parents organized parties inside the house and the music continued after I went to bed. As I rested my back on the bed, the beat of the music and the tittering of the people below were all I could hear. Going to sleep to nirvana in that manner was very enjoyable. My father and mother would be okay if I lingered sometimes in order that I could enjoy witnessing them dance. My dad would even lug me in his arms as we danced. I will never fail to remember those lovely times and they will constantly be treasured in my heart. My parents decided that I should have my own phonograph when I was older and they purchased me one. My phonograph produced the music of Elvis Presley, Doris Day, the Beatles and most of all Motown since it’s what I love the most. The phonograph which Mr. Edison devised has been a cause for enjoyment and merriment. You deserve all the credit for an excellent gadget.
It all commenced in October of 1877 as Mr. Thomas Alva Edison made a recording on the nursery rhyme phrase, “Mary had a little lamb,” and initiated man into the world of noted sounds. The community ultimately decreasing its attraction on Mr. Edison’s innovative device came as a shock. From the invention to creating an archetype, to performing an exhibition at the New York’s Scientific American, the Edison Speaking Phonograph Company was later launched by the year 1878. Manufacture of the phonographs started, and several were pushed in the market causing it an immediate sensation. The attention of the world on the other hand waned after the success. The newness of the phonograph faded and Edison transferred his attention to the original conception of the incandescent light bulb.
On the other hand, it wasn’t until Alexander Graham Bell revealed an interest in enhancing the phonograph and along with his cousin Chichester A. Bell and Charles Sumner Tainter, a scientist and instrument maker requested for a patent on the 4th day of May, 1886 that made Edison to decide to assume the undertaking of upgrading his machine. Edison declined hearing Bell and Tainter’s proposal on working on the job of upgrading the instrument a team effort because he was resolved to work on it himself. In 1887, on October 8, he established the Edison Phonograph Company to promote his invention. The rest, they say, is history.
Throughout the years the phonograph undertook a lot of enhancements, from using cylinders, it progressed to the creation of LPs. This brought the public to another world of recording sounds. LP indicates long-playing, thus the record played longer hours and with fewer interruptions. It even made better sounds.
Phonograph turntables these days are still present in the market. Still have those records from way back from your parents or yours perhaps?I still have my old Elvis records, some of my parent’s favorite records and they still sound fabulous. A phonograph with a radio, cassette player and recorder – these are the contemporary phonographs that you can buy these days that give amusement in many ways. Replacements or extra needles, both are still offered in the market lest you need one for your phonograph.
The delightful memories just keep returning every time I play the old records on that phonograph of mine. It just brings me such delight and amusement.
Bring back the old music and play your favorite songs by using a portable turntable. At Safe Home offers reasonable prices.
