Making the Most of a Bad Movie
How do movies with all the money possible to make it a success, completely bomb at the box-office? This is a question that even the top experts in Hollywood can?t figure out. Studios don?t intentionally make bad films, sometimes they become bad through a combination of elements.
With big budget movies getting even more complex than ever before, it is no surprise that things can go horribly wrong. With many different people working on these productions, it is such a shame that just one person could not see it as a whole and spot the mistakes. Unfortunately some of the solutions to these problems can be even more complex than the problem. And it can be very to completely overlook the obvious and see the solution clearly.
Of course, even if Hollywood turns out a truly awful movie, it doesn?t mean it can?t have moderate success at the box office, if only briefly. The lesson is that it doesn’t matter what truly awful movies Hollywood wants to throw out at the public, people are going to show up and spend their money.
Put all that extra effort and money into the advertising and you just might get a few tickets sold. The lesson here is that if you advertise hard and fast, you will be able to sell a bad movie to the public and make a reasonable amount of money from it, before the public realise and word spreads about it.
But the bigger question, if you have just spent a lot of money making a movie just for it to turn out bad, why would you throw even more money in its direction with the hope of getting it back again? Hollywood has always thrown good money after bad. Get the best trailer you can possibly squeeze from the movie out in theatres and on tv, and you can make the movie look ten times better than it actually is.
Don?t ever undersell your movie, build it up to be much bigger than it actually is. Don?t sell it as a simple boy meets girl story, tell everyone that it?s an explosive romance between a muscle-bound all action hero, and a gorgeous sexy heroine with action all the way.
You can get the audiences rushing to see the movie with the trailer including all the best shots from the movie, even the ones that didn?t even make it into the final cut of the movie.
Big budget movies such as Speed Racer are the kind of movies that can completely destroy production companies, ruin movie stars careers, and prove to the rest of the world that advertising can?t work miracles and even Hollywood can get it drastically wrong.
Your movie could have the latest top director, the biggest stars in Hollywood, fancy special effects and the biggest budget available, and this still wouldn?t guarantee a success at the box office.
