Rock T Shirts – The Epitome Of Rock n Roll
Rock n’ Roll will never die, and the same goes for rock t shirts. The love of Rock n Roll is symbolized by the popularity of rock T Shirts. A brief history of rock music, which revolutionized entire generations and inspired the culture and lifestyle of the last six decades, is given below.
Nineteen fifty one was the year in which the term ‘Rock-and-Roll’ was first used when Alan Freed, a Cleveland jockey, picked up the phrase from a then popular song, “My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll.” Sexual-innuendo-containing music was considered to be Rock-and-Roll in the 1950′s. Different genres, including blues, jazz, and country, were incorporated into the music, which was salient in its use of a strong rhythm with an accented offbeat and a loud electric guitar.
The 1960′s saw the Rock-and-Roll music characterized by heavily accented beats, electronic amplification, along with simpler and more youthful lyrics, in the United States. It was in this decade that rock music became very popular and highly loved by many inside and outside the United States. This music, called Rock n’ Roll, achieved much during the following decades and it was Chuck Berry, who started the wild, crazy, jail-break type of music that deserves all the credit.
Before its’ popularity rose to great heights in the 1960s, rock music saw major obstacles and adversity. These included the deaths of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, Little Richard embracing the robe, the war-time drafting of Elvis into the army, and the criminal litigation against Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry. Rock n’ Roll’s hero, Church Berry, spent three years in prison for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old waitress.
These happenings and others like these would have spelt the doom of Rock n’ Roll, had it not been for the Beatles. America first heard the Beatles on WWDC radio station on December 17, 1963 as it played their hit song “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”. Rock n’ Roll had arrived.
Another landmark date in music history is January 18, 1964, when “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” topped the charts in the United States, following which, on February 9, Beatles performed live on the Ed Sullivan show. The Beatle phenomenon was dubbed “Beatlemania” by the CBS Evening News. The exaltation that the British group commanded did not abate till they disbanded in 1970.
Rock music became THE genre of music in the 1970′s and procured fame and fortune during this time. While rock stars became darlings of the masses, rock concerts were sold out weeks in advance. Rock bands, stars, and personalities began the profitable business of selling concert and rock T shirts and other merchandise due to the huge popularity they achieved in the 70s.
Blues rock, jazz rock, fusion, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, glam rock, and heavy metal, hitherto for unknown, became the most popular as well as distinct form of rock music. Punk Rock appeared on the scheme in the second half of the 70′s decade and became an outlet for antiestablishment voice. The 1980′s saw the rise of New Wave, post-punk, and alternative rock – all derivatives of punk rock – which ultimately led to the rise of indie rock, Brit pop and rock metal in the 90s.
The two decades of the 80s and 90s produced iconic music figures that are household names even today. These huge names include Kiss, Madonna, U2, Prince, Jon Bon Jovi, and Metallica among a host of others. These gifted musicians showed the way that made American music and the entire music world what it is today.
Rock n Roll has a cult status today, its’ followers including a huge percentage of the world’s music lovers. It dominates the movies, sporting events, and fashion. Rock T shirts are simple mementos to the musical coup we have witnessed.
The rock t shirts are memento of the musical revolution that has happened over the years.
