Lost Horizon: First half hour duplicates 1937 film scene for scene, and everything’s going well. Then we get to Shangri-La and everything goes bad. Fantomas against Scotland Yard: A sarcastic cliffhanger-type venture story, with Marais as wonderful felon involved in sports orientated adventures. Cast includes Jean Marais, Louis De Funes, Mylene Demongeot, and Henri Serre. (104 minutes, 1966)

Follow the Sun: The movie is a fictionalized biopic of golfer Ben Hogan with hokey dramatics to fill in lean spots. Cast includes Glenn Ford, Anne Baxter, and Dennis O’keefe. (93 minutes, 1951)

Red Salute: Absconder screwball Stanwyck meets no nonsense cadet Young in this clone of It Occurred One Day with crazy socio political wrinkle. Barbara’s boyfriend (Albright) is an interrogator who makes Communists talk. This is a definitely a new twist. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Young, Hardie Albright, Cliff Edwards, Ruth Donnelly, and Gordon Jones. (78 minutes, 1935)

Alien from L.A.: A California valley girl falls down into a gap and she ends up in the lost city of Atlantis. The movie is as stupid as it sounds. Cast includes Kathy Ireland, Thorn Matthews, William R. Moses, Don Michael Paul, Richard Haines, Linda Kerridge, and Janie du Plessis. (87 minutes, 1987)

Airheads: 3 metal heads with toy guns reluctantly take a music station hostage because they want to get air time for their one and only demo tape. Not the most difficult subject to satirize, although the script is weak anyway. A somewhat vigorous direction and compact running time help a tad. (91 minutes, 1994)

Spice World: A fantasy view of a few nights in the lives of the pop phenomenon The Spice Girls and their presence with road agent Grant. Cameos by Elton John, Bob Hoskins, Bob Geldof, Elvis Costello, The Fantasy Boys, Jonathan Ross, and Jennifer Saunders. Cast includes The Flavor Gals (Mel B, Emma, Mel C, Geri, and Victoria), Richard E. Grant, Roger Moore, George Wendt, Claire Rushbrook, Mark McKinney, Richard O’Brien, Barry Humphries, Jason Flemyng, Naoki Mari, Meat Loaf, Bill Paterson, Jools Holland, Stephen Roast, and Richard Briers. (92 minutes, 1997)

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: A typical venture spectacle has Ford in fine form and Connery providing extra panache as Indy’s archaeologist dad, whose bizarre disappearance (when looking for the Holy Grail) sets the tale in motion. This intentionally old fashioned Saturday matinee has everything money can buy, however on no account seriously creates a sense of marvel and enthusiasm. A certain advancement over the second Indiana Jones episode it still bears the mark of one too many (as is the case in most sequels) . Cast includes Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Denholm Elliott, Alison Doody, John Rhys-Davies, Julian Glover, River Phoenix, Michael Byrne, and Alex Hyde-White. (127 minutes, 1989)

Night Moves: L.A. investigator Hackman sets apart his domestic grief to track nymphet Griffith to Florida Keys. Difficult however underrated mental suspense film by Alan Acute leads to shocking pinnacle.
