Strengthening Local Music: Small Venues and Independent Promoters Working Together

Within the past 5 to 10 years or so, small clubs that put on concerts around the country have begun to work more closely with independent promoters to an extent that has never been seen before. These relationships seem to be blossoming everywhere, such as Studio Seven in Seattle booking shows with the Cleveland-based Gorilla Productions, who specifically put on shows to support local musical acts in a lot of different cities. Gorilla Productions also have a number of programs they offer to bands seeking consultations and coaching on various facets of the music industry.

With smaller concert clubs working so closely with independent promoters, it’s no surprise that the venues are having very little trouble booking up their calendars. Event coordinators and promoters like Gorilla Productions and Afton Live work with a number of venues in various cities, like the Beaumont club, which is located in Kansas City.

Most local groups do not understand how difficult it is for concert venues to book unknown local groups. Having companies like Gorilla Production there to help them has done wonders for local music scenes across the country.

In recent years, production companies including Gorilla Productions set up about half of the local concerts that went on in major cities all around the country. Local bands would probably have a good deal of trouble booking local shows without the aid of companies like Gorilla Production and others like them. It’s relatively easy for local bands to book shows at small bars in their neighborhoods, but that barely compares to performing on the same stage that some of their idols have performed on before them.

In addition to helping groups get shows, production companies have also helped to increase attendances for the shows local group play and found a way for these group to make more money than ever before. In the past any original band that made more than $50 was doing great; now a group can make $500 on one of these shows, if they are willing to put it the effort to bring a decent crowd with them to the club.

Gorilla Productions puts on concerts for local groups in over 65 cities across the nation, specializing in putting on Battle of the Bands, showcases, and music fests. Production companies like Gorilla Productions have been working closely with concert clubs to strengthen music scenes all across the nation.
