What is generally regarded as the best text on writing lyrics?

I don’t think there’s going to be a quick fix for this dilemna….you need to spend a lot of time with poetic meter (and by that I mean read and study classic poets, the romantic poets in particular) so that you can attune your mind to the rhythm of words and language….a good starter book in the field of song-writing is the Idiot’s Guide to Songwriting or Songwriting for Dummies, just to lay the basics on you…but for you to be really great at commanding language (meaning you want lyrics to mean something and not just ride atop a song melody), you’re gonna have to pay some dues in the poetry books…..
