Traditional jazz. Download any old jazz songs from the 20′s or go to where you can hear music for free or download for almost nothing (like five dollars for a year). Jazz music by Paul Whiteman’s band or any jazz band of the period. Also try Dismuke’s site. He has an online radio and also free downloads of old jazz.

Dance music of the 20s. There are a lot of places to find it these days. The actual dance the Charleston was only popular for a couple of years, but that rhythm, that particular kind of music was popular from the early 20s into the 30s.

Once you get the moves down and the tempo down, I bet there would be a lot of 60s rock & roll that would work too!

Good contemporary artists would be The Boilermaker Jazz Band or Moira’s Modern Rhythmnists. Fletcher Henderson is a great vintage musician.

A couple of THE classic Charleston songs are: Muskrat Ramble, King Porter Stomp or Diga Diga Doo. They’re all available on jazz-on-line.com or itunes.

They’ll all work whether you’re learning the 20′s style or the 30′s style.
