When writing a song, is it best to write the music first or the lyrics first?
Þeodwita Pro-Rabid Penguin Horde asked:
Should I write the lyrics and then write the music to fit, modifying the lyrics as needed? Or should I write the tune and then compose words to fit, modifying the music if needed?

i personally find it better to write music first so you know the rhythm and outline of the song
As what Fr Dougal once said: “Lets do the lyrics first and then fit the tune around it”
The music definitely.
The music shapes the mood of the song, the lyrics just add to that.
It really depends
sometimes the music will hit you first….and you’ve got a good riff to build on . Some other times the lyrics will hit you first…then you build the beats on that lyrics or verse. It works both ways for me when writing my songs…i dont have a set method for writing songs because I CANT control my inspiration when it hits…it come to me and i just write it down and surrender to it.
I personally prefer to write music and then lyrics, but it can be more difficult for you.
